In keeping with a lovely, long standing tradition the Lord Mayor came to visit our school today. Councillor Kieran Mc Carthy was welcomed with a guard of honour by our sixth class pupils on his arrival.
In the hall all pupils and staff gathered where the Lord Mayor received a very warm welcome and we sang Amhrán a bhFiann. Peter, Zak and Daniel provided words of welcome as Gaeilge agus as Béarla. Cllr. Mc Carthy is a wonderful story teller and we were all enthralled at his personal story which began with his very keen interest in History and particularly the History of Cork City when he was a pupil himself in primary school. He encouraged us all to explore our wonderful city and he was delighted to hear of all the trips taken by classes to places like the Cork City Gaol , Shandon and Elizabeth Fort just to mention a few.
In honour of the Lord Mayor we sang the beautiful song ‘Beautiful City,’ accompanied by Ms. Mangan on the violin and Cllr. Mc Carthy was delighted to sing along. He complimented the boys on their exemplary behaviour and singing.

We have no homework today and we are all delighted.
It was a very memorable visit and a chance to think about and relish the city of Cork . A great day was had by all.
