Designing and making catapults in 6th class.

For science this week, the boys in 6th class looked at how catapults work. Catapults were used for a long time in warfare, the Romans used catapults as siege weapons and later on, the Normans used them also. In the twentieth century catapults were used in the First World War to fire hand grenades into the enemy’s trenches. Using rubber bands, lollipop sticks, pva glue and tape, we were able to design our own versions. By putting stress or tension on the elastic bands, we were able to store energy in them. When we released the elastic band, we were able to use this energy to send small objects flying!
