5th Class Film Reviews: Invictus

By Jason Desmond

I recently watched an astonishing film named Invictus. The movie was made in 2009 and was directed by Clint Eastwood. It is an amazing historical film based on a true story. It is also a significant movie to learn about the apartheid system and how Nelson Mandela fought for black people’s rights.

Morgan Freeman was acting as Nelson Mandela in this film. He is a very famous retired actor. Francoís Pianaar was the captain of the South African Rugby National Team. Matt Damen acted as Francoís Pianaar, he is also a very famous actor, except he is not retired. Chester Williams was also playing for the South African Rugby National Team. He was the only black player on South Africa’s National Team.

At the beginning of the movie Nelson Mandela got elected president of South Africa. This is in 1994. In this film he tries to bring the country together. The next year is the Rugby World Cup 1995. It was being held by South Africa. In the end, Nelson Mandela unites black and white people together.

In my opinion this is a great movie, the acting was very realistic except in the rugby the sound affects were too intense. I would give the movie 4.5 stars. I also enjoyed the happy ending. It is only 4.5 stars because I prefer action films more. I would recommend this movie if you are into history, Nelson Mandela or if you want to learn about the apartheid system. Invictus is a great all-round movie. I really enjoyed it and it is a great movie.

Invictus is a movie based on Nelson Mandela. It was created in 2009. It is based in 1994 and 1995. Recently I have seen this movie with my class in school. Invictus is a historical movie. The director is Clint East wood. The actor for Nelson Mandela is Morgan Freeman. The plot of the movie is that the Rugby World Cup is on and South Africa is playing in the world cup. The full South African team is white except for one black player named Chester. During the movie the South African team went to a shanty town that were full of black people and kids to teach them how to play rugby .once the African team arrived the black kids ran straight to Chester the only black player and stared chanting his name. It was  truly heart breaking  to see the kid play in sandals and ripped  cloths.  Even thought it was really sad it was very interesting and really good. Overall I rate this movie 4.5 out of 5 so I really recommend this movie to people if they want to see a fascinating historic movie with drama and very good plot twists. I really recommend it.

The movie was created in 2009.It is called Invictus and was directed by Clint Eastwood. The year is 1994.Nelson Mandela was only recently released from prison and he is about to take on his first day as president. His first day as president is going well he meets his body guards and his apprentice. They then show him to his office and he relaxes for the rest of the day. Nelson Mandela then hired a new set of body guards but there was a problem. The new and old bodyguards didn’t get along because are black and the new ones are white and at the time the blacks were holding a grudge but they started to get along. The Springboks also known as South Africa were hosting the rugby World Cup. Was this their year? Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela. Matt Damon plays Francois Pianaar.

What I liked: The movie raised awareness to racism. It was a good ending. It was educational.

What I didn’t like: The sound effects weren’t great. The stadium looked off and the rugby wasn’t very realistic.

Over all it was a pretty good film and I would rate it an 8/10 if you’re into topics such as rugby, Nelson Mandela and history. I would recommend giving it a watch. The End
