2nd Class – Busy Bees

The fantastic pupils of second class have been very busy this half term. They have worked so hard predicting, estimating, analysing, calculating, solving, recording, painting, singing, hurling and of course praying. Ms Curran is so proud of the diligence and dedication shown by all the boys.

To celebrate Maths week, Bricks for Kids visited the classroom. The pupils worked as engineers, building electric vehicles and racing them! Lewis Hamilton watch out…!!

Second class also created their own patterns using shapes and the Hundred Square:

They also investigated symmetry in the environment, checking to see if objects had lines of symmetry.

In History, the boys interviewed parents at home to gain information about their lives as babies and toddlers. This was important for completing their Timelines, which they displayed outside the classroom.

Autumn was our theme in September and the boys enjoyed learning new vocabulary to use in their oral language lessons, SESE, and in their creative writing. They also gathered crunchy autumn leaves and creatively used them as hair for their da Vinci portraits.

In October the boys showed great empathy for communities affected by floods. We discussed the weather a great deal, following Storm Babet, and the exceptional levels of rainfall it brought to parts of Cork.

As the month went on, things took a spooky turn in second class!!! With Halloween approaching, we based a great deal of our learning in Gaeilge, Music, Literacy and Art on this scary festive theme.

Finally, after all their trojan work, it was time for the boys to celebrate Halloween with a little cóisir (party). The costumes were so convincing that many shrieks could be heard each time the door opened and a púca (ghost), vampír (vampire), creatlach (skeleton), fear grinn (clown), or an equally scary character appeared!!
