Ms Mc Gloin’s and Mr. Bergin’s fourth class had great fun exploring our local environment here in Togher with Heritage Ireland. In the classroom, our guide Calvin gave us lots of interesting information about some of Ireland’s native species such as the Irish Hare and the Red Squirrel. He also talked about some of the interesting mammals which visit Irish water such as the humpback whale and the amazing basking shark which we learned can measure up to 7 meters long!

We then set off on a nature walking looking out to see what flora and fauna surrounds us in Togher. We spotted Ireland’s smallest bird the Goldcrest, learned about how nettles sting us and learned about the dangers birds put themselves in when they sing.

We will definitely be keeping our eyes peeled and ears tuned in the next time we are walking in the locality!
