2nd Class at Culture Day

We were very proud of some members of our class who shared their backgrounds and culture with us recently. This was done as part of the whole school celebration of the rich cultural diversity of our pupils at Togher BNS. How lucky are we!

Here’s Kayden and his mam, educating us on Jamaican culture and customs.

His friends joined him to taste delicious Jamaican food, hear some Jamaican sayings, and to draw the flag on their worksheets.

We even got to see beautiful photos of Kayden’s Jamaican family.

Well done Kayden! And thanks to mam for sharing this fabulous Jamaican heritage with us all.

Next up, Matthew bravely manned the ‘Ireland’ stand with his mam. They shared phrases as ghaeilge, displayed our national flag proudly, taught us a bit of the history of our country, and showed photos of some GAA heroes!

Míle buíochas Matthew! Ryan learned a great deal.

Rayan was delighted to visit the stand about Egypt….

While Abdulrahman came in traditional Iraqi costume… seen here with Ismael, whose family hail from Algeria.

Haniel came in traditional Indian saree.

Here’s Oliver learning all about Slovakia.

Fionn enjoyed tasting some cake from Malaysia.

Paddy and his mam taught Cian and Mason about the travelling culture and some phrases in their own language, known as Cant or Gammon.

Karim, Fabian,, Jakub, Ben and Haniel recorded information about Croatia on their worksheets and learned how to say “Zdravo” or “hello” in Croatian.

Fabian A. tried his hand at a Polish jigsaw with Redoun.

Finally, we all learned about Libya and admired the colourful native jewellery and craftsmanship.

Thanks to Ms Manning for organising such a fun and interesting day and to all the families who put in such a huge effort to educate and feed us!!!
