The magic whispers of old trees!

Ms Curran recently took her second class for a nature walk at the Regional Park in Ballincollig. The boys immersed their senses in the natural beauty of trees, identifying leaves and fruits, reading the names of the various species, and even hugging the trunk and doing bark rubbing!

The boys also learned about the different parts of a tree and how each part has a special function. They particularly liked the terms “photosynthesis” and “lungs of the earth”. Did you know that trees are the longest living organisms on the earth?

Finally, we walked along the banks of the River Lee, tracing its journey from Inniscarra Dam, to Ballincollig Weir, and on into the city. The great signage around the Park taught us that this floodplain is a flight path for migrating birds, bats and other mammals.

What a great day!
