A meeting with an Olympic Medallist

Tuesday November 5th is a day that will live long in the memory of students in 5th and 6th class as Olympic Rowing champion Philip Doyle gave us a virtual visit.

The boys had spent weeks researching and making projects and biography’s on Philip and his exploits as well as other Olympians and the history of the Olympic Games

When it finally came to the day of the visit, there was incredible excitement in the school. Philip came on and spoke on his break from his job as a doctor in the hospital. He was blown away by the work that the boys had done in preparation for the visit saying ‘you know more about me than I know about myself’. He especially praised Daniel in 5th classes incredible biography about him.

Philip then opened the room for a question and answers session with the boys. From this we learned about his respect for his rowing partner Daire Lynch, his gruelling training routine, life as a doctor and his love for Micheal Jordan and Usain Bolt.

It was a truly unforgettable day and we are so grateful to Philip and the Dare to Believe Program for taking the time to pass on his expertise and inspire us.
