Sixth class set off to Mitchelstown Cave today for our annual geology trip. We had been learning about karst regions in school and were delighted to see the features of a limestone cave today. The stalactites, stalagmites and pillars were absolutely amazing.
We were very interested too to see the seismometer in the cave which tracks earthquakes around the world. We were fascinated to hear that an earthquake which occurred recently in Africa was noted on the seismometer here forty minutes after the event.
It was a great day out and we all learned so much. A huge Thank You to Chloe our guide who was so interesting and who answered the many questions we had.
