This week, 2nd class boys had great fun exploring Science with three fun experiments! Here is what we did:
1) Chemical Reaction with Apple Cider Vinegar and a Balloon
In our first experiment, we used apple cider vinegar and baking soda to create a fun chemical reaction. When we added the baking soda to the vinegar, it created gas that inflated a balloon! This helped us see how certain chemicals can react to form new substances.
2) Oxygen and Air with a Candle Flame
Next, we explored how oxygen helps a flame burn. We lit a candle and placed a glass over it. As the air inside the glass ran out, the flame slowly went out too, showing us that a candle needs oxygen to keep burning.
3) Cornstarch and Water Magic
For our final experiment, we mixed cornstarch with water in a big glass dish. We then used some force by punching the mixture with our fists and it turned solid! This happens because the cornstarch molecules trap the water, making the mixture behave like a solid when we apply force. We were gentle and tried to touch the bottom of the dish with our fingers, we were able to do so because the mixture had turned liquid.
The boys had so much fun learning through these hands-on experiments, and we can’t wait to explore more Science!
