Sixth class were delighted to undertake a guided tour of the UCC campus today. We had been learning of the history of Irish universities in class and how University College Cork was once known as Queen’s University Cork.
We found the story of George Boole intriguing and we were delighted to rub the nose on his statue on the campus , something that is believed to bring us good luck in our studies. We visited the Honan Chapel where we admired the beautiful architecture and decor. The many Ogham stones in the famous stone corridor were amazing.
We finally visited the Crawford Observatory and we were fascinated to see the telescopes developed in the last century and we even got the chance to open the roof to see how things worked in the 1800s.
We got the chance to experience student life at its best when we had lunch in the main restaurant. A great day was had by all and as usual the boys were courteous to everyone we met.
The boys had a graduation ceremony at the end of the tour and in years to come we look forward to seeing them graduate with their degrees from UCC.
