We had the privilege of being invited to the Southside Youth Forum Community event in the Barrs this week. A massive thanks to Cork City Partnership, Foróige, Cork County Council and the exemplary students of local secondary’s schools Coláiste Eamonn Rís and Presentation Ballyphehane for a wonderfully enjoyable and well organised event.
All stations were managed by Cork Sports Partnership but also by a team from Tramore Rd. Campus 2nd years -Sports, Recreation and Outdoor Education Course, members of Cork City Council Sports Team, St Finbarrs GAA club, and Foroige – UBU Project Ballyphehane /Greenmount. There is phenomenal work being done by youth groups, community groups and schools in the southside of Cork City agus is fíor an seanfhocal ‘Ar scáth a chéile a mhairimíd’.
Thanks also to renowned Cork DJ Stevie G who’s tunes & energy added to the positive atmosphere. Stevie has worked with many of the students from our school teaching music and collaborating on tracks.

Southside Youth Forum Community Day by Alex Rohu
Today we all went to the Barrs for the Southside Youth Community Day and we did loads of sports and activities.
First, we did soccer/football and the orange team got 1 loss and 2 draws, Non-bibs team got 1 win, 1 draw and a loss and finally the green team got the best stats with 2 wins and 1 draw.
Then we all went over to athletics. We did javelin throwing and running. The coach did a thing where he put his hands out like an American Football goal and if you hit his arm you get 5 points, if you through his arms you get 3 points and if you hit below his body your team get 1 point. After that we did running jumping and hurdles we had to jump of the ladder on the floor go around the cones and then jump over the hurdles. There were bottles of water availible for us to take and I took one and poured it on my head because it was roasting.

Then they took us back to the astro pitch and we played bulldog but we had tags on us and they had to take the tags to get us on and nobody could get me until Andy came out of nowhere and got me out but everybody had two and I had one tag, so the next round I volunteered to be tagged first and five other people were on too I got 2 tags and I had to give their tags to the Man. Next we played a game of rounders.

After that we went over to the “arts and crafts” and there was a black sheet and I toothpick and you had to colour it and most people used to stencils but I didn’t I just coloured it fully and there was also tattoos and I got a pretty-pretty princess tattoo on my right cheek. Then the Lord Mayor was there and we all got a photograph with him and before we left we had to take a photograph playing tug of war with him. My team won but Cory fell on top of me. When we were leaving Mr. Collins got a load of Easter Eggs and he is going to give them out a hometime.

It was a fantastic day and it was really fun with all my friends.
Thank you for reading this.
