Sixth Class Trip to Cobh.

Sixth class set off bright and early on this beautiful April morning for our annual trip to Cobh. We began our day with morning mass in St. Coleman’s Cathedral. After mass we were fortunate to have the resident guide who gave us the history of the cathedral. It was fascinating and we really enjoyed our learning experience.

We then made our way to the Benedictine Monastery where Mother Catherine greeted us and treated us to some lovely food for our break. Mother Catherine told us of the life of a contemplative nun in the enclosed order here and we were delighted to learn how these nuns live their calm and peaceful lives close to Jesus. She was delighted to answer our questions and satisfy our curiosity. This convent was originally the home of the British Admiral in Cobh. The view from the balcony was simply enthralling on this magnificent morning and we were able to pick out all the landmarks in Cork Harbour. We saw Spike Island, Haulbowline , the Naval base, Roche’s Point lighthouse where the Titanic moored in Cork Harbour and the Aghada Power Station.

Finally we had lunch in the park and enjoyed our time in the playground.

A huge Thank You to Garda Dave and Henry from the Family Centre for transporting us.

We had a wonderful day and we are looking forward to our next trip to Gougane Barra on May 22.

As usual the boys were an absolute credit to their families and school.
