OH MY GODS! Coiscéim goes back in time to ANCIENT GREECE!

This term, our class took an exciting journey back in time to explore the rich history and culture of Ancient Greece. We investigated the beliefs, daily life, and achievements of one of the world’s most influential civilisations.

Please enjoy Kayden’s introduction video above showing some of the areas we explored and the incredible work we created.

Inspired by Percy Jackson, a favourite author of ours, we began our project by learning about the Greek gods and goddesses, whose stories and personalities played a major role in shaping ancient culture. Students explored the myths surrounding figures such as Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon, and considered how these deities were used to explain natural events, guide decision-making, and teach important values. Discussions and activities helped students make connections between ancient myths and the way storytelling continues to impact cultures today. We also enjoyed the movie ‘Hercules’ during our recent school cinema day.

Our study also included an in-depth look at daily life in Ancient Greece. The boys examined what homes were like, the roles of men, women, and children, and how people worked, played, traded, and learned. We compared the lifestyles of different city-states, noticing how geography and local customs shaped the way people lived. One of the highlights of this section was our exploration of Sparta. Students learned about Spartan education, the importance of discipline and physical training, and how this society differed from others in Ancient Greece. They enjoyed comparing Sparta’s traditions to those of Athens and discussing how each city-state contributed to Greek identity.

Inspired by Greek architecture, students studied the design and purpose of the Parthenon, one of the most recognisable buildings from the ancient world. They observed its columns, proportions, and historical significance before sketching and painting their own interpretations, resulting in beautiful and thoughtful artwork.

The boys developed skills in reading, writing, research, history, geography ,art and critical thinking while gaining a deeper appreciation for Ancient Greece’s contributions to modern society. By the end of our project, the boys were able to describe not only what life looked like in ancient times but also how Greek ideas in government, art, storytelling, and education continue to influence our world today.

Our Ancient Greece project truly brought history to life, offering students a memorable and meaningful learning experience. Well done boys, we are so proud of your hard work.
