Junior Infants Trip to the Teddy Bears’ Hospital

This week our Junior Infants were very lucky to be able to visit the Teddy Bears’ Hospital, which is run by the medical students in UCC. This is an annual event hosted by the Medsoc students which has become a highlight of the Junior Infant year and we were delighted to be invited again this year.

The day began with a trip to Fitzgerald Park where the boys got a chance to play in playground before bravely crossing the ‘Shaky Bridge’. We stopped for a picnic before walking to UCC and the boys took in the beauty of the university grounds while enjoying the lovely blue skies!

Then it was time for our visit to the Teddy Bears’ Hospital. The boys brought their teddy bears to visit the doctor and there were a few serious ailments! They got to experience the hospital environment in a welcoming and fun way. There was a waiting room, treatment rooms and an exercise area. The boys had the opportunity to learn about medicine and the importance of keeping fit and healthy. They also got the chance to become junior doctors while donning medical scrubs and exploring some medical equipment. In the treatment rooms, the medical students were on hand to help the very sick teddies. There were X-ray machines, plasters and bandages available to treat the patients.

It was a fantastic experience for the boys and it helped to ease anxieties about hospital visits and trips to the doctors. We would like to thank everyone involved in the Teddy Bear Hospital especially Chulainn who made sure our trip to UCC was a success!
