Our 3rd Class had a fantastic and delicious day celebrating Pancake Tuesday!
Bhí na buachaillí ag foghlaim faoi Lá na bPancóg an tseachtain seo. Léigh siad conas pancóga a dhéanamh. Nuair a bhí sé in am na pancóga a ithe, d’ordaigh siad iad as Gaeilge! Bhí rogha iontach acu: síoróip, anlann seacláide, leamhacháin nó banana

It was fantastic to hear such confident Gaeilge being spoken, especially when pancakes were involved! Maith sibh, a bhuachaillí! 👏🥞

As part of our learning in History, English and Religion, we explored the tradition of Pancake Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday, in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. The boys learned about where the tradition comes from and why pancakes became such an important part of the day. We discovered that long ago, families would use up all of their perishable ingredients, such as milk, eggs and flour, before the beginning of Lent. Making pancakes was the perfect way to use up these ingredients before the Lenten season began!
Lent is a time of reflection, prayer, and preparation for Easter. Many Christians choose to give something up as a form of sacrifice and self-discipline. Fasting is not simply about giving up food, but about growing closer to God, helping others through acts of kindness and charity, and reflecting on the example of Jesus.
