Green Day

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, the school is working on its fourth Green Flag. The theme for the next two years is Transport.

Green Schools Ireland is holding a nationwide competition on improving sustainable ways to travel to school.

In conjunction with the Active School’s Committee, our school will be promoting walking to school.

A recent survey indicated that 50% of our children come to school by car. We would like to improve these statistics. Children indicated that they would be more likely to walk to school if they had someone to walk with.

Green Day

To launch our campaign, we will have a Green Day on Tuesday 26th   February. The children will wear something green to school on that day. Children will be surveyed on random days about how they came to school.

The Parent’s Association, Green Flag and Active Flag Committee will help facilitate children walking to school on   the 26th of February. We are encouraging all parents to come and join us on that day and help their children to find a walking buddy for future days

We will use the following areas as meeting points on the 26th of February at 8:30am and leaving at 8:35am.

Spar Shop in Elmvale

Funeral Home – Sarsfield Road

Old Southern Fruit Depot – near Fernwood

Junction of Togher Road and Shournagh Lawn – Near credit Union

Families who live far from the school can use these meeting points as a starting point for “Park ‘n’ Stride.

A reminder to all parents using the Church car park to please park safely.

Thank You

Susan Buckley
