The boys had great fun predicting and investigating soluble and insoluble substances. They were surprised to discover that sugar and salt dissolved in warm water but apple slices and grapes did not.
With their newly acquired knowledge the boys then designed and created their own Lava Lamps. The boys used blue food colouring to dissolve in the water and then added oil. They were amazed to discover that oil was insoluble in the blue coloured water. They then dropped in an Alka-Seltzer tablet and observed the realise of gas. The fuzzing up of the water created a wonderful atmosphere of awe, wonder and curiosity amongst these budding little talented scientists.
