Ms Mc Gloin and Mr. Bergin’s fourth classes recently wrapped up an exciting STEAM project all about climate action, using the fantastic STEAM education Science in a Box resources generously funded by Smurfit Kappa.
The boys got the chance to explore big environmental topics in fun, hands-on ways. From carbon dioxide to wind turbines, they learned how science can help us understand and protect our planet.

đŹ What Did We Learn?
Over several lessons, the boys explored a range of important topics related to climate change, including:
- COâ and the Carbon Cycle
- Carbon Footprints
- Humans and Nature
- Wildlife and Sealife
- Renewable Energy
These topics sparked great discussions and helped the boys understand the science behind todayâs most important global issues.
𧪠Hands-On Experiments
The boys got the opportunity to take part in some creative and exciting experiments:
- đ Atmosphere Globe â Students designed globes and added pipe cleaners to represent gases in our atmosphere.
- đ COâ Balloon Experiment â They created carbon dioxide in a fun chemistry activity, watching it inflate a balloon.
- đŹď¸ Wind Turbines â The boys built small wind turbines to learn how wind energy can be used to generate power.

đ A Visit from Smurfit Kappa
The project ended on a high note with a visit from Smurfit Kappa, who came to see the amazing work their support made possible.
The boys proudly presented their science posters, explained their experiments and talked about their new knowledge of climate action.
