Sixth class marked the end of a wonderful year with our school tour to Dublin yesterday. We set off on the 07:00 train from Kent Station and arrived in Dublin early in the morning where we made the most of our day.
Our first stop was Glasnevin Cemetery where we had a guided tour of the 1916 trail. We had been learning about the Easter Rising in class and the subsequent War of Independence and the Civil War. Our guide was most impressed by our knowledge and the intelligent questions we asked. We heard the stories of Daniel O’ Connell, Eamonn de Valera, Jeremiah O’ Donovan Rossa, Roger Casement and Michael Collins. We leave primary school with a great knowledge and love of History.

Next stop was Croke Park where we enjoyed a delicious lunch and a tour of the stadium. We now know the stories behind the names of the stands here . We were delighted to see the dressing rooms and the players’ lounge and we even got to hold the Liam Mc Carthy cup!
Finally we made our way to the city centre and we visited the Garden of Remembrance before our shopping spree. We also got to visit the GPO where Pádraig Pearse read the Proclamation. We had a wonderful day out and the boys were a credit to their families and school.
