Sixth class set off bright and early this morning for our school tour to Dublin. We travelled by train and we visited Glasnevin Cemetery for the 1916 tour. We had been studying the history of Daniel O’ Connell and the main highlights of the nineteenth century in class. We were delighted to visit the vault where he is buried and see the amazing round tower built in his honour. We had a great tour guide who regaled us with many stories of people such as Eamonn de Valera and Michael Collins. We were delighted too to visit the grave of Michael Collins and we noted how it is the most visited grave in Glasnevin Cemetery.
We followed on to Croke Park where we had lunch followed by the stadium tour. We visited the dressing rooms, the players’ lounge and the media rooms. It was fascinating.
Finally we visited the GPO and we went shopping for an hour. It was a wonderful day and a memorable one for the boys as they soon leave primary school.
