This morning fifth and sixth classes set off bright and early for a visit to Fitzgerald’s Park. This trip was a reward for two weeks of very hard work by all. It was a beautiful morning and we enjoyed our walk to the park.
We visited the museum there where we saw many interesting displays on various themes. We saw a display on the Fenian Movement and on the two World Wars.
All classes had been learning about Traveller culture this week and the third floor of the museum is devoted to this theme. We saw many interesting old photos which gave us a deeper understanding of the nomadic way of life of the travelling people. We were particularly impressed by the barrel topped wagon and we even got the opportunity to sit inside it. The boys are going to undertake projects on the travelling culture and way of life in the coming weeks.
A great day was had by all and we compliment the boys on their excellent behaviour. They are a credit to their families and school. We are looking forward to our next trip out very soon.
