On Thursday morning , sixth class set off bright and early for our trip to Trinity College. The Provost of Trinity College is Linda Doyle who is a past pupil of Togher Girls’ School and while on a visit to Togher last year invited the sixth classes from both schools to visit the famous college.
We received a very warm welcome from the staff in Trinity College on arrival. The campus looked splendid on a nice sunny morning and we kept an eye out for the famous Trinity foxes as we walked around. We attended a micro biology workshop which was delivered by a Canadian student who gave us a great understanding of cells and how they work. A few boys got the chance to demonstrate the process using toys which gave us a very clear understanding of the topic. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
Next we got to visit the famous Book of Kells. We had been learning about early Christianity and our guide was most impressed by our knowledge. It was absolutely fascinating to see the famous manuscript and note how it is on display under vert strict guidelines. Amazing to see the real Book of Kells and to see the perfect condition it is in. From here we went to Trinity library and saw the famous Long Room. The library is due to close for refurbishment this autumn for three years so we were very lucky to visit here on this occasion . Subsequently we did a campus tour and our guides here were two Trinity students ,we saw the many beautiful buildings on campus and many of us would love to return to study here some day. We received great advice and encouragement from everyone we met.
Finally, we got to visit Linda Doyle in her own home which is on campus. It is a beautiful house and we had an audience with Linda in her sitting room. She is a lovely lady who chatted to us and answered our many questions . Linda gave us great advice and praised our wonderful schools here in Togher where her journey began.
We were treated to a beautiful lunch in Trinity Hall which we all really enjoyed. Mar a deirtear’Is Maith an t-anlann an t-orcas’.
As a token of appreciation for our wonderful trip we presented Linda Doyle and her staff with tokens of our appreciation. Linda was delighted to receive a beautiful piece of Genesis depicting a scholar from the pupils of Togher Boys’School. We were joined by some parents on our trip and a fantastic day was had by all.

We are very grateful to Linda Doyle for inviting us to Trinity and to her lovely staff for making us so welcome.
