Sixth Class Visit UCC.

Sixth class visited UCC today to undertake a guided tour of the campus. We were fascinated to learn that UCC originally had one hundred students and today has approximately twenty five thousand students . It was great to witness the atmosphere around the quad and we were very careful not to stand on the grass owing to the famous superstition whereby it was said that if one walked anywhere in the middle of the quad , they would fail their exams. We visited the Crawford Observatory and we were fascinated by the range of telescopes on view there.

From there we proceeded to the Honan Chapel where we observed the beautiful architecture . We rubbed the nose on George Boole’s statue as this is supposed to bring one good luck and we learned about this great mathematician after whom the Boole Library is named.

It was a great day to be on campus as UCC unveiled their fifth green flag. This is a great honour for the college which is the only university in Ireland to be awarded so many green flags.

Finally,we had our graduation ceremony where we donned our gowns and posed for photographs. Many of us look forward to studying in UCC in the not so distant future.
