The fifth and sixth classes had a great day out yesterday when we visited Nano Nagle Place for a guided tour. We had been learning about the Penal Laws in class and the implications of same on Catholics in Ireland in previous centuries. It is wonderful to learn about people who shaped the development of education in our own city and throughout the world.
Nano Nagle played a huge role in this not only in our own city but throughout the world. It was an amazing story that someone from such a privileged background could give up an idyllic life to help in the service of others. It was fascinating to visit the convent where Nano started the Presentation Order , it was surely a journey back in time.
Ireland was surely the ‘ Island of saints and scholars ‘ and the influence of Irish people providing education here and abroad was truly evident to us. Many of the boys commented on the fact that Nano Nagle Place is a haven of peace and tranquility in an otherwise busy city. Many of them will return with their families.
What a wonderful, informative day out we had.
