4th Class Mr Collins Tuesday May 5th- Friday May 8th

Hello again, I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and the lovely weather.

As you will have seen, I have been uploading audio files on to Microsoft Teams. This week I will continue to upload audio and video content on to the class page on Microsoft Teams. This will include videos to assist the weeks work, different activities, as well as a class novel.

You can communicate with me through Microsoft Teams if you have any queries or requests and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Pupils can return work to me on this for feedback and encouragement. Essentially Microsoft Teams will facilitate communication and its main benefit is as a portfolio of student’s work .I will get back to everyone as quickly as possible .

If anyone is having problems logging in to Microsoft Teams, email distancelearning@togherboys.com for assistance

Tabhair aire .

Le dea-ghuí, Liam

Every day I would recommend continuing on with one test from BrainTeasers. Continue with one each day in sequential order.

For spelling and litriú, move on to the next unit this week. For English spellings, I would advise taking 4 words a day for 4 days; 16 words in total. For litriú, take 3 words a day for 4 days; 12 words in total.

Maths: – Every day practice multiplication and division tables. These can be done in a fun and enjoyable manner through challenges and games. Recite tables within a certain time frame, get 10/15/20 tables correct in a row etc, etc. The maths games Fizz Buzz and Buno are especially popular in the class.

Operations: Multiplication

For the coming week, we will continue to work on multiplication and we will focus on longer multiplication as the week goes on. I will post an instructional video during the week to assist

Tuesday: Multiplying tens and unit

Just like last week, we will start by continuing to multiply a number by another number bigger than 12. For example 15×4, 17×3, 23×9.

As you all know, these multiplication sums must always be written out downwards. Put the bigger number on top and multiply the unit by the smaller number and then the ten by the smaller number. Don’t forget to carry the ten after multiplying the unit. There are examples on this page and have a go off all the sums on question 3,4 and 5.

Wednesday: Today we will practice multiplication again. Today however we will be doing long multiplication. Have a look at the video on the class page on Microsoft Teams before you begin. Remember to multiply the top number by the unit of the bottom number first and then multiply the top number by the ten of the bottom number. Don’t forget the magic zero!! The video will help you.

Thursday: Today we will continue with another page of long multiplication. Remember everything you practiced yesterday

Friday: We will finish the week with some long multiplication word problems to solve!

Keep going with the litriú! 3 words a day x 3

We will look at some reading this week. Look at the video of me reading on Microsoft Teams before you start. The piece is about the weather. Here are some important terms.

Lá brea atá ann- it is a fine day

grianmhar- sunny

trá- beach

farraige- the sea

gaofar- windy

gaoth- wind

duilleoga- leaves

deatach- smoke

ag séideadh- blowing

Scríobh; Try this written activity. Use the words you know and the pictures at the top to put the right weather into each description.

Read a book for 20 minutes every day.

Continue spending 10 minutes evrey couple of days writing a diary about your day and what is going on around you. There have been a lot of changes in the past week This is your chance to write about what you are experiencing and how you are feeling. Use your new words in your writing and concentrate on beautiful handwriting, punctuation and spelling. Look over your work at least twice and fix any mistakes you spot!

My Read at Home. Continue on with My Read at Home do a page a day and answer the questions in your copy.

Novel: This week we will begin the novel Toro Toro. Listen and enjoy the story and answer any questions that I may ask as I read each day. You can listen to the story every day on Microsoft Teams.

At the start of the week I would like you to write a page about your favourite novel. What was it called? What did you like about it? Who wrote it? Who were the characters in the story? What happened during the story? I would love to read about all of your favourite books so send them on to me afterwards if you want.

On Friday, I would like you to use your Prediction skills to write a few sentences about what you think will happen in the story when we pick it up again next week!

Geography: Spain

Toro Toro is a story based in Spain. Spain is a country in Western Europe. A lot of you will have visited Spain before on holidays and I know many of you support famous football teams from the country such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Here is a PowerPoint where you can learn more about the country of Spain

Here is a factfile on Spain for you to print and fill out or write in your copies. Some information you might already know, some might be on the PowerPoint and some you may have to research. Enjoy!

Music: Practice a new song this week. Because it’s the beginning of May and the start of the summer, I have chosen the song Will You Go Lassie Go as our new song. I would love to hear you give it a try yourselves so send on videos of you singing it if you’d like! I might practice it myself with my new guitar and try to perfect it by the end of the week!

Pablo Picasso was an extremely famous Spanish painter. You can find out about his life here and there’s a quiz at the end.

Here is a link to some Picasso paintings which you can print and colour in.

Every day this week, I challenge you to do 30 jumping jacks, 15 press-ups and 50 heel flicks. Do these three exercises three times a day.

I’m going to upload an activity video during the week on Microsoft Teams so stay tuned for that!

StorytellingDavid Walliamshttps://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

This year we have spoken a lot about Gratitude and Kindness. Every day write down 3 things you are grateful for and 3 kind things you did for others today. It is so important that you are helpful and caring to your families during this time. You have the chance to fill someone else’s bucket every single day

Here is an attachment of the Stay Safe programme and resources. This would be a good time to go over the important messages in this programme.

Most importantly, have fun with your families. Play plenty of games, practice your sports or instruments and read some books!

I have attached two websites which are recommended by the school if parents are looking for additional ideas.

  1. Khan academy (maths online, need to register for this) https://www.khanacademy.org

2. seomra ranga (daily general knowledge quiz with a prize) https://www.seomraranga.com/
