An Unforgettable Science and Tech Adventure at Ballyphehane Presentation Secondary School!

Our 1st and 2nd class students had the most amazing day out recently when they visited the wonderful students and staff at Ballyphehane Presentation Secondary School. Ms. Curran’s 1st class, along with Ms. Walsh’s and Ms. Crowley’s 2nd classes, packed their bags for a busy day of hands-on learning, creating, and exploring.

From the moment we arrived, the excitement was buzzing as our pupils got a taste of what secondary school life is all about.

Fun with Science

The main event was a series of five science experiments using everyday household items. Our pupils became mini-scientists for the day, exploring the world around them through interactive stations:

  • Erupting Volcanoes: The children loved mixing simple kitchen ingredients to trigger bubbling, colorful volcanic eruptions.
  • Lava Lamps: Another big favorite was creating mesmerizing, swirling DIY lava lamps.
  • Red Cabbage Colour Magic: The students used red cabbage water as a natural indicator, watching in amazement as it changed color to reveal the pH levels of different household liquids.
  • Fingerprint Analysis: Students learned about the unique patterns on their own fingertips and how forensics works.

Energy in the Gym

After putting their brains to the test, it was time to get moving! The children took part in a high-energy PE class in the school gym. The Ballyphehane team led them through fun games and teamwork exercises that kept everyone smiling and active.

Creation in the Woodwork Room

The excitement didn’t stop there. The students also got a rare chance to step into a secondary school tech room for a woodwork class. With safety first and plenty of guidance, each child helped build and craft their very own wooden truck to keep as a souvenir of their big day.

We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone at Ballyphehane Presentation Secondary School for hosting us and putting on such a fantastic, welcoming day. Our pupils had absolutely great fun and haven’t stopped talking about it since!
