It was great to hear from so many of you during the week and to hear all of the great work and activities you have been doing! As always, you can contact me at any time by email (eodonoghue@togherboys.com) or on Microsoft Teams if you need anything at all, or if you would just like to update me on how you are all getting on!
Below is suggested work for this week. As always, please only complete as much of this work as suits you and your son. If you would like any extra resources in any particular area, just let me know and I would be happy to help!
Keep safe and well,

Gaeilge
Mon: Watch the ‘An Nuacht’ (meaning ‘The News’) video. I have voiced over the video to include the English translation of each sentence. When replayed, can the boys remember what any of the sentences/words mean before I say the translation?
Tues: pg. 65. Full instructions in audio file below.
Weds: Watch ‘Na Trí Mhuc’ video which tells the fairytale of The Three Little Pigs in Irish. I have included a file below with a sentence-for-sentence translation into English, but really, as the boys are familiar with this story already, the purpose of the video is just for them to listen to a story in Irish, hear the language being spoken, and get enjoyment from it!
Thurs: pg. 66. Listen to the words on the page in the audio file below. Colour the picture by the numbers given.
Fri: pg. 67. Listen to the words on the page in the audio file below. Colour the picture.
Maths
- Busy at Maths pg. 139 to 142 (one page a day for four days)
Capacity is continued on pages 139 & 140.
There are revision questions on pg. 141. It might be a good idea to see how the students manage this page without any help or with very little help, so we can identify any past topics that may need revision.
For the addition questions on pg. 142, the most important thing is to ensure that the students add the units together first before adding the tens. It is very important that they learn to do this in the correct order for when we move on to addition with regrouping.
- Mental Maths – One column per day. Answers included on the last page.
- Tables – Minus 10

Science Experiment (Materials/Living things)
This very simple science experiment can be used to show how animals’ fat/blubber helps to protect them from the cold. Perhaps you could first discuss animals that live in cold environments and have a lot of fat/blubber (e.g. whales, seals, sea lions, polar bears). These animals need this thick layer of blubber under their skin to help them to survive the cold.
The video below shows you how to perform this very easy experiment! Worksheet also provided below.
Stay Safe
This week we will revise the next lesson in Stay Safe which discusses safe and unsafe choices. A number of scenarios are given, and your son must decide whether the choices made are a good idea, a bad idea or if they are unsure. Read each scenario with the boys, leave them think through their answers and then discuss their choices with them.
Religion
The month of May is a month during which many people say special prayers to Jesus’ mother Mary. You may like to discuss how to pray the Rosary. We covered this earlier in the year, but it might be a good time to remind the boys that the Rosary has one Our Father, ten Hail Marys and one Glory Be. There is a worksheet below from Grow in Love, if you wish to complete it.
